Why is gutter clearance important?

Over time, gutters collect silt and bio matter - e.g. moss, leaves and twigs - that are washed down from the roof by the rain.

(As we live by the coast it’s not unusual to find chicken bones, crab claws and other shells discarded by seagulls picnicking on roof tops!)

Blocked gutters:

  • overflow, causing damp issues and/or staining to walls, render and brickwork

  • gradually fill up with compacted compost, becoming much heavier than they are supposed to be. They then sag, bend and twist under the weight, causing bracket fixings to fail.

How can I tell if my gutters need clearing?

If you see any of the following signs of blockage at your property then gutter clearance is for you:

  • Plants growing in the gutter

  • Water overflowing when it rains

  • Gutters sagging or bending

  • Stains on guttering or on walls below (this will look like grey or black water staining)

  • Roof valleys that are full of moss and/or debris (if the valleys are full, the gutters below are likely to be full too).

How often do I need to have my gutters cleared?

Every house is different but, as general rule it's a good idea to have your gutters cleared every year or two.

However, if you have lots of moss on your roof or deciduous trees close by then you may need to get the gutters cleared more regularly.

We can provide quotes for one off/ad hoc gutter clearance or we can create gutter clearance schedules to suit your needs (e.g. six monthly / yearly / two yearly).

How much does gutter clearance cost?

All gutter clearance jobs will be quoted individually but, as a guide, we use the following per unit pricing: £3 per meter of guttering with a minimum charge of £80 (including VAT).

(This is the per unit pricing prior to the 10% discount being applied.)

Can you repair broken gutters?

Yes, we can carry out minor repairs to gutters such as replacing broken gutter brackets and fixing leaking joints.

Repairs would be quoted separately to gutter clearance and are exempt from the promotional discount.
